The problem

Before we talk in detail about what clay bar is, first, let me help you understand when you need it.

  • Did you see dust cover on your car quickly? Even though you have just washed it.
  • Do you feel a rough, grimy paint on your car?
  • Do you find your car paint isn’t smooth and doesn’t feel clean?

So, what’s wrong with your car?

Why is my car covered in dust today?

Yep, there are something on your car paint. They ere not only dust. Because you can blow these dust easily.

All those tiny particles being kicked up into the air stick to your vehicle and build up. Add a little rain and other elements, and that fallout can rust and corrode your paint job. And we called these are contamination.

That rough texture you are feeling is a mix of micro-level dirt that won’t come off with a simple wash. This isn’t any old dirt or grime. It is environmental and industrial fallout.

And fallout is contamination that includes tiny metal particles from industrial sites, brake dust, and road film. It comes from various places like railway areas, factories, even just a drive down a Highway.

You thought that your car is clean after washing. Yes, it’s right. We used to think like that. But the truth is not. Let’s check what are on the car paint:

  • Overspray
  • Scratches & Swirls (for sure)
  • Brake dust & Rail dust
  • Water marks and water spots from acid rain
  • Industrial pollution

That’s why we will never see a shiny and glossy car as in a showroom.

Checking dust on car after washing

You can’t check these dust on car before washing because the car is full of dust. You should wash it first. Then, use a nylon bag to check all the surfaces.

And if you found a rough texture feeling, these are contaminations build up.

How to get rid of dust on car?

Wash it!!!

But these tiny particles are still there. How to remove it? How to clean it completely?

We need a solution. That is Clay bar detailing (or Clay bar treatment).

What is clay bar detailing?

What does a clay bar do when detailing a car

We’re talking how to kick out all these road salt, grime, tree sap, bugs, and brake dust. That’s a gritty texture paint.

And we hate it. So, we need to clean it. It’s the Job To Be Done at Detailing EZ. Of course, we have many choices and multiple steps to do it. One of these is using a Clay Bar.

In general, we call it a Clay Bar Treatment. And we use Clay bar with lubrication to remove – or ‘lift’ – surface contamination and pollutants from the surface of your car.

So, when you hear the term “claying a vehicle” or “clay bar detailing” or “clay bar treatment”, it means removing all those micro-surface contaminates that are potentially damaging your vehicle.

What is a clay bar?

The modern detailing clay bar is like the ultimate sticky note for your car. I mean, this synthetic plastic putty literally yanks out all that stubborn, embedded dirt from your paintwork.

The only job of the clay bar is to remove contamination on the paint’s surface. It is essentially used to remove the grunge, so your final finish is clear, bright, and shiny.

With a clean, smooth surface, your car won’t be a dirt magnet anymore, and it’ll stay looking fresh for longer. Plus, you’ll be setting the stage for a wax job that’s not just long-lasting, but also glossier and shinier than ever. No more dust on car after washing.

Best clay bar car detailing

At EZ, we don’t think any product is the best. We careful select which one is suitable for the problem we face. So, we have some priorities for clay bar car detailing:

  • What are car detailing requirements now?
  • How long we can play with it?
  • What is the current condition?

There are some products we can trust, because they totally understand what is detailing in mind. In our daily routine, we use CarPro Clay Bar because they have a sort of clay bars in hand.

  • Medium Clay (Yellow) is used for tackling those tough, stubborn contaminants that just won’t let go.
  • Fine Clay (Green) is used for weekly maintenance hand wash.
  • Ultra Fine (White) is used for car with ceramic coatings.

Of course, our detailers use clay bar lubricant on both your car’s section and the clay bar itself. The car must be washed before this clay bar treatment step.

Clay bar car detailing kit

A simple clay bar detailing kit are:

  • Clay bar
  • Clay lubricant
  • Microfiber towels

Car detailing clay bar alternative

As we mentioned above, each detailer should have an alternative in hand. We do. Decontamination Block is a good choice if you want to keep it last much longer than clay.

Another choice is Clay Towel | Clay Mitt. We found that it might be harder to tell if your car is fully rid of surface contaminants with this choice.

At EZ, we prefer a clay bar. When a clay bar is dirty, we have to say goodbye and grab a fresh one. Unlike weekend detailer, we clean a lot of heavy duty job, so we use a lot of clay bar and clay lubricant. But we know exactly when it dirty.

Cleaning with clay bar detailing

How to use clay bar for car detailing

We know there are many ways to use clay bar for car detailing. Some are simple, others are complicated. However, we will follow these Step-by-Step as follows:

Step 1: Wash Your Vehicle

Many detailers prefer to prepare and just wipe the paint. That’s enough! We agree with this instruction once the car is clean. Otherwise, you have to wash it.

Kick things off by giving your car a wash with a car soap to get rid of any loose dirt and grime. Rinse the vehicle thoroughly.

A pH balanced car wash shampoo or a strong cleaning power are your choice.

Divide it into smaller, manageable pieces. We only need a thin layer of clay bar to lift the contaminants. If you use thicker piece, you tend to have more pressure on the paint surfaces. That’s not good. These actions will cause swirls and marring.

Our goal here is remove these contaminants and restore your paint’s original luster.

Make sure you’re working in the shade so your clay lubricant doesn’t dry up before your job done. We usually divide a car panel into smaller section ~ 40 x 40 cm. This simple method is to keep a clean surface in control. It’s easier to check whether you complete the cleaning task or not.

Also, spray the car’s surface with a clay lubricant or quick detailer to provide lubrication for the clay bar.

Glide the clay bar over the lubricated surface in a back-and-forth motion. you should use light pressure, and let the clay do the work. You don’t need to press too hard, as this can cause scratches.

At the end, you should feel the clay picking up contaminants as you work. Rinse the vehicle thoroughly and have a check.

Fold the clay bar onto itself and knead it again to expose a clean surface. Do not keep dirty face on car surface. Repeat the process on the next section of the car.

When you’ve finished car clean clay bar detailing, give it another quick wash. This time is the entire car wash, and dry it with a clean towel.

Clay bar treatment
with EZ

Why do we clay bar car paint cleaning?

As mentioned above, we love clean and shiny cars. Clay bar treatment is a simple way to prevent dust on black car. Once the paint is clean, we can apply dust repellent car paint.

Secondly, Clay bar treatment helps removing tiny contaminants. Your paint will have a smoother, more even finish. This will make your car’s color look shinier and appear more vibrant.

Also, it gave us better polishing results. We all know that a polishing machine can easily wipe out all contaminants. Without proper cleaning, detailers can create more scratches. We don’t like this way. And a cleaner the surface, the better bonding with paint sealant.

Do we have a clay bar car wash?

Yes, we do have a clay bar car wash. In fact, all our detailing hand wash packages are treated with clay bar.

A clay bar treatment can help to protect your paint as a preventative measure. As we mentioned, contaminants can cause premature aging and wear. By removing them before they have a chance to bond to your paint, we can help to prevent this type of damage.

Do you use clay bar ceramic coated car?

Yes, we do. Many car enthusiasts recommend not to you clay bar on ceramic coated car. We totally understand their point of view. They want to get rid of scratches.

Maintaining your car’s paint finish is important to preserve both its look and value. Over time, your paint will become contaminated with pollutants like road grime, tree sap, dust, bird droppings, and more. No matter you coat your car with the best ceramic coating or the best PPF. These pollutants can create a dull, faded appearance. That’s difficult (or even impossible) to clean away with conventional methods.

We believe that our proper techniques can keep your car paint finish “like new”.

Clay bar or fallout remover at EZ?

We do both. A fallout remover is design to break down brake dust, rail dust and iron particles inside your paint. A clay bar treatment can’t remove it.

We use clay bar treatment to remove the embedded dirt and other materials stuck in the paint. It can be stuck in an existing factory or custom clear coat layer of your vehicle.

Do you offer clay bar in Thao Dien (Quan 2)?
